Slide making workshop, Convenience Gallery, Birkenhead, August 2019

Part of my art practice is the creation of 35mm slides using salvaged film and other materials.
I devised and led a workshop guiding participants to make their own slides using found materials, various transparencies and image manipulation techniques using markers, sandpaper, hole punches and more..
We used my collection of old slide projectors to check the work as we went along and to hold a short showing of people's work.
I made sure to send participants home with extra materials so they could keep working on their creations.

To say I am impressed by the work created by these first time slide makers is an understatement.

This workshop will be followed up by a series in Manchester.

Galleria Quattro, After Work Art School, Manchester

After seeing a lack of evening artist led workshops for adults I established a regular roster of evening workshops featuring a different artist and theme each time.
I work with the artists, all of whom are local to Manchster, to devise a workshop for the evening.
Hand embroidery, printmaking, watercolours and collage making have been some of our regular events. Each workshop invites guests to learn a new artistic skill in a relaxed atmoshpere with wine and pizza.
Due to Covid restrictions we are currently on hiatus but are planning a new way of running these workshops as soon as we are able.

I run printmaking workshops for all ages and abilities, ranging from primary school to adults.
Children's workshops are designed as an introduction to relief printing and use safe and easy materials, so no sharp cutters or knives.
During these classes we focus on the techniques needed to produce a clear sharp image and print on tote bags for students to keep.
This session takes around 2 hours and begins with sketching out some ideas then refining our designs, transferring them to the Foam printing blocks and carving our designs with a sharp pencil.
These workshops are also available for adults and have been really popular as team activities for work mates and family groups. Techniques and materials are slightly different for adults and lino carving is also available. Sessions are often run in wineries, cellar doors and other licensed venues.
